This mesmerising gold sequin top walked the runway as look 63/75 for Valentino’s Spring 2005 show. Vogue wrote that this collection, “drew inspiration from a woman who travels the world, hitting the global trail with a few hippie looks and some personal charms”. This collection was designed with Valentino Garavani still at the helm of his eponymous company and his signature haute glamour, bohemian aesthetic was apparent throughout. This high-octane blouse was a stand-out piece in the show, paired with a flowing silk maxi-skirt. It is tailored from nude mesh and smothered in glittering embellishment; scattered circular gold sequins, uniform lines of bronze sequins, chunky rhinestones, silver bugle beads and tiny bronze bugle beads create stripes across the cloth that shimmer in different hues as they catch the light. It is cut to a slightly cropped silhouette with short-sleeves. It has a pointed, flat collar that adds a casual feel, and it fastens halfway down the front with decadent bronze gem-like buttons. The top also unzips under the arm to make it easy to put on and off.
This top is in truly excellent vintage condition with no flaws to the mesh or beadwork. It is labelled 100% Nylon and size US 8 or UK 12 but would work on sizes smaller. The fabric has no stretch.
